The first off road trail near Tacoma, WA is Elbe Hills ORV Area located 31 miles E of Tacoma for a drivetime of approximately forty five minutes. This trail system has about 8 miles of trails and was built by volunteers. The trails range from easy to moderate and to difficult. The individual trails include: The Busywild Trail (most difficult but can be negotiated by a stock 4x4); The Mainline Trail (crosses a lot of the other trails); The Alder Loop Trail; The Mainline Extension Trail; The Swamp Trail; The Gotcha Trail (one of the longer ones); and The Rainer Vista Trail (not as many challenges as the other trails). You can see what other wheelers are saying about Elbe Hills ORV Area and other trails by visiting the Where2Wheel trails map here.

The next offroad trail near Tacoma, WA is Tahuya State Forest located 49 miles NW of Tacoma for a drivetime of approximately one hour and ten minutes. Tahuya State Forest is a working forest that contains some private land. There is one designated 4X4 loop and many 2-track trails the are considered 2 way trails. Respect all signs and gates. The last offroad trail near Tacoma, WA is Evans Creek ORV Area located 40 miles NW of Tacoma for a drivetime of approximately one hour and nineteen minutes. With trails ranging from easy to most difficult, along with motorcycle, ATV, and off road vehicle accessibility, the park provides a little bit of something for everyone! A campground is additionally available for those who want to camp and even provides space for larger RVs. It is important to note that passes will be required for park entry. The trails are numbered and marked for difficulty as well as type of vehicle. Evans Creek offers plenty of challenge and lots of beautiful scenery, with viewpoints of Mount Rainier that are hard to beat. Due to the fact that the trails in Evans Creek are tight and twisty we would not recommend it for large rigs. Conditions at Evans Creek can vary widely with the weather and season. In winter the park can be closed due to snow and even into late June or early July the upper trails can still be impassible if snowfall was heavy enough.
