In order to keep the offroad community up to date with the latest and most accurate wheeling information, we have created an offroad trails map that covers the entire USA. The trails map on Where2Wheel is powered by the offroad community and is totally reliant on individual offroaders contributing their knowledge to keep the map up to date and accurate. So if you do go wheeling on any of these trails, make sure to leave a review on W2W, or make any adjustments to the trail descriptions as needed since trail conditions can, and often do, change frequently.
Alright, we were talking about off road trails near Newark, NJ. Again, last warning, we are talking about Jeep trails and 4×4 trails that are large/wide enough to fit a passenger vehicle – no ATVs or dirtbikes talked about here. The first off road trails near Newark are two trails located just 35 miles to the north of Newark, and the drive should take about 45 minutes. These two Jeep trails, Stag Hill Road and Rockland Powerlines, were both added by Where2Wheel members and you can view the trails either by clicking their names above or by visiting the Where2Wheel Trails Map here.
The next closest 4×4 trails to Newark, NJ is the Del Water Gap National Recreation Area. Del Water Gap is about 60 miles NW of Newark and the drive will take around 90 minutes. Del Water Gap has over 70,000 acres to be explored through a network of old mining roads and forest service roads. None of these roads a specifically “offroad trails”, but there is the occasional mud hole that you will come across. If you are a seasoned offroader, then you probably aren’t going to find anything to get too excited about here; however, Del Water Gap is an easy way to get out to nature for a scenic drive and for beginner offroaders this is a great place to familiarize yourself with your rig and light offroad driving. Check out Where2Wheel to see trail reviews and read what members are saying about Del Water Gap and other offroad trails around Newark, NJ.
The last offroad trail that we are going to cover near Newark, New Jersey is Pine Barrens located 90 miles south of Newark with a drive time of approximately an hour and forty five minutes. I realize that a two hour drive is a lot of travel time, but Pine Barrens is well worth the drive, especially if you have a modified vehicle and are looking for some terrain to challenge your rig. The Pine Barrens trail system is located in Wharton State Park in Hammonton, NJ. At Pine Barrens you will find over 500 miles of unpaved roads (forest trails) and the entire area tends to get extremely muddy when conditions are wet. Pine Barrens is known as THE place to go offroading in New Jersey, but make sure to brief yourself on the rules before heading out to Pine Barrens. Once again, there are many more Jeep trails and 4×4 trails listed on Where2Wheel, but it’s easier if you visit W2W and view the offroad trails map for yourself.
