I've spent a decent amount of time in Lynchburg. Lived in Roanoke for 4 years. Back in VB now. I don't know how close to the Jefferson National Forrest you are, but when I was in Roanoke we used to trail ride on the fire roads through the forest. Plenty of creek crossings, mud pits, hill climbs, etc... Just make sure you have a full tank of gas cuz the trails go for days!
